For almost 30 years, CKLN 88.1 FM has been a voice for assorted opinions, music and issues that are under-represented in mainstream media. But a recent CRTC decision nearly took the Ryerson-based station off the air.

Why would a station like CKLN have a "legal team" led by someone who isn't a lawyer (ie: Ms. Speers)?
ReplyDeleteAlso, why does CKLN never mention that they actually have retained the high profile law firm Fraser, Milner Casgrain LLP, specifically for the purpose of arguing for the appeal? This is a law firm advertised heavily on Business News Network (BNN). If I was running a company that was in big trouble, I would want to crow that I had retained an expensive, prominent, establishment type law firm such as Fraser, Milner Casgrain LLP. Not CKLN. I guess they want to keep that underdog, "grassroots", hippie image intact.
Speaking of which:
Ms. Gupta...what's with the use of the word "herstory"? How pretentious and obnoxious of you. You're trying to save a radio station and you still have to alienate people with your identity politics divisive nonsense? By the way...the origin or use of the word "history" has nothing to do with gender.
"The word history, coming from the Ancient Greek ἱστορία, or historía, meaning "a learning or knowing by inquiry", through the Latin historia, is etymologically unrelated to the possessive pronoun his."
Gupta and her ilk have a contempt for the average community person, and their primary interest is in trying to purge or reform our culture, right down to the way we speak or spell the English language. Right, "wombyn"? Their interest is tyranny and CKLN is their pulpit. No wonder they're so concerned about losing it. So focused were they on these petty, chip on the shoulder issues, they couldn't even run the station properly.
Next.
Hi Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteFor the record, Lauren is studying law at Osgoode and chairs the station's legal defense committee. It only makes sense to seek legal advice.
Also, Joeita doesn't sound like the type of person who would have contempt for average joes and janes. She's simply passionate about women's studies and CKLN.
ER
Thanks for your correction to the information contained in your podcast, Eric. In it you introduced Ms. Speers as the "...legal appointee to the CKLN Board...".
ReplyDeleteYes, Ms. Gupta is passionate about making men feel as if they are sexists if they use the word "history" instead of "herstory". I'm sure the mean spirited silliness doesn't end there.
Also about Ms. Gupta: She's at the U of T involved on the governing council in the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS) affiliated group APUS. There could be made a case that there's a conflict of interest with her seat on the CKLN Board due to the CFS relationship with the Ryerson Students' Union and their seat on the Board of CKLN.
Any concerns you have regarding CKLN can be addressed to the CRTC and/or CFS. ER
ReplyDeleteNo, I'd much prefer addressing these pressing issues with you, Eric. Somehow I think you could get to the bottom of this chicanery. Your advocacy journalism piece has brought down their defenses. They trust you now. Whatever you do, be careful of the CFS. Comparitively, their adherents make Scientologists appear easy-going. I'm leaving this up to you.
